The next day you will descend further to 1900km, a downhill journey taking you through exciting mountain ridges, a group of Pir Panjal ranges of the inner Himalayas encircling you, and slippery slopes. 2-3 hours later, you will notice the Chandra River flowing below and a road that goes by its side. More than two Glaciers come next which are to be crossed. The other side of the Glacier is Chatru, the next camping zone.
Detailed Note: We can break today’s trek into two stages – the climb to Hampta Pass and descent to Shea Goru. The climb to Hampta pass is moderately steep, and the descent to Shea Goru steep. Take a small break once you reach the top of the pass. Make your target by lunchtime. Have lunch and then start the descent. Start the trek from Balu Ka Ghera and move towards the mountains. Witness the pink and yellow flowers growing beside the river. This will give you fantastic scenery. Proceed the road by the river for an hour. The trail is not so good, and at some points, it may fade out. So be careful. Always stay with your fellow trekkers and follow the instructions of the guide. Never get lost. After an hour, the climb starts and is the first severe incline you will encounter in the Hampta pass trek. Climb for half an hour and reach the first plateau and witness the Deo Tibba peak. The entire region is filled with snow if you come here during early summer. During other seasons, you may get only some patches of snow. Relax for some time and begin the next ascent. This inclination has two stages to it and finally ends at the ridge. It will take about 20-30 minutes to reach the top of the ridge. From the top, you can see your next destination. From the top of the second ridge, the Hampta Pass is just a bend away. Before dropping to the second ridge, continue walking on the first ridge for a few distances. You will get a 360-degree view of the beautiful mountain peaks, suitable for a panoramic shot. After descending, start the vertical climb for 20 minutes. The descent is more complex than the climbing and will also depend on the snow condition. If the trail is filled with snow, then sliding is the best option. Once you reach the pass, take a right turn and see the Lahaul side of the pass below. Walkthrough the right side of the mountain. Be careful here as you have to walk over slippery soil and stones. The first downhill section is completed within half an hour. Take a U-turn and reach below the pass. Then trek straight downhill. You can also follow the zig-zag until you reach the valley in an hour and a half. You can see tall snow-clad mountains enclosing you from three sides. Take the open side and walk to Shea Goru. The walk to Shea Goru is easy. However, it can be tiring for some. You will spot a river on your right side. Once you reach there, choose a campsite close to the river and rest.
