About the trek
Nestled in Uttarakhand, the Gaumukh Tapovan trek is a 48 Km long trek that can be completed within 6 days (8 days including driving to and fro). The ascent begins from Uttarakhand and ends in Gangotri, a pilgrimage site for Hindus. It is known for its steep ascent, and the picturesque views of Bhagirathi peaks, Mount Meru, and Mount Shivling.
Temperature
Winter
During the daytime, the air remains chilly but bearable enough, whereas during nighttime the temperature drops down to the freezing point (0 to -2 degrees Celsius). During winter, many places shut down due to the chilly atmosphere.
Summer
The temperature falls somewhere between -2 to 10 degrees Celsius. During the daytime, the weather is pretty pleasant and bearable. Whereas during nighttime the weather gets mildly chilly.
Monsoon
During monsoon, the temperature is almost around 15 degrees Celsius.
Best time for the Gaumukh tapovan trek
The months of September to June are the best to visit Gomukh Tapovan. During this time the glaciers in Gangotri start melting. The views are amazing during this time.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Dehradun to Gangotri

Your trip will begin from Dehradun where you will be driven to Gangnani. Gangnani is famous for its natural hot water springs.
Upon reaching, check into the Guesthouse and spend the rest of your night there.
Day 2 : Gangotri to Chirbasa

On the second day, you have to begin your trek from Gangotri to Chirbasa
You will be trekking along the beautiful Bhagirathi river.
You will be trekking on the beaten trail to Chirbasa, which is present on the tree line.
Upon reaching, set up the tents, and spend the rest of your night relaxing and recovering from the exhausting trek.
Day 3 : Chirbasa to Bhojwasa

After Chirbasa the trail becomes more and more Barren
On the third day, you will be trekking to Bhojwassa through thick forests.
Your campsite will be near a temple in Bhojbasa
After reaching you are free to explore the nearby area. You can also witness the beautiful sunset.
Day 4 : Bhojwasa to Gaumukh & Tapovan

Wake up early in the morning to watch the enchanting sunrise and the view of the Bhagirathi peaks.
After breakfast, you will be resuming your trek, by heading towards Goumukh.
Please make sure that you carry at least 2 liters of water with you, as there won’t be any water resources on the way.
You will be exploring the place and then trekking to Tapovan. On the way, you will find high-altitude alpine meadows.
When you will be trekking from Goumukh to Tapovan, you might experience a steep ascent which would be the toughest part of the entire trek.
Upon reaching Goumukh, you will get to witness the beauty that Mother Nature has to offer.
Spend some time there admiring the view, and then head towards Tapovan and spend the night there.
After taking a long and exhausting trek to tapovan, on the fifth day you will be resting and exploring the area around.
The campsite is situated in a very beautiful area which has clear views of Mount Shivling, Meru, Manda, the Bhagirathi peaks, Karchakund, Kedar Dome, and many more.
Tapovan is going to be the highest point of our trek.
Spend your night there.
Day 5 : Tapovan to Bhojwasa

Wake up early to witness the glorious sunrise.
After having a scrumptious breakfast head back to Bhojbasa.
Day 6 : Bhojbasa to Gangotri to Dehradun

You will be trekking to Gangotri in the morning
Prepare to bid goodbye to the amazing trek.
You will arrive in Dehradun by evening
